Peace Care History

In 2008, the idea was launched and received countless offers of volunteerism and support. A founding board of directors consisting of 5 members was formed in early 2009. By 2010, we had ~800 subscribers to our monthly newsletter and a team of ~100 members on our advisory group. Our momentum continues to climb resulting in the following achievements, thus far:

  • In 2009, Peace Care was voted 1st in Global Health in Ideas for Change in America on Change.org!!!  Peace Care was in the top 65 ideas out of over 7800 submissions!  
  • Nonprofit Status in the state of Illinois -- January 20, 2010
  • Once again, in 2010, the Peace Care idea was voted into position as a finalist in the Ideas for Change in America on Change.org!!!
  • We applied for a NIH Grant and were unsuccessful; Through this process we did establish partnerships with:  Peace Corps Senegal, Malawi, and Jordan, Stanford U, Operation ASHA, and Datadyne
  • We presented our model at the Unite for Sight Global Health Conference in April 2010 at Yale University.
  • We conducted a small scale Process Feasibility project in Minga, Zambia.
  • We completed a strategic planning process over the summer of 2010.
  • We presented our model at the AAFP Global Health Conference in September 2010.
  • In late summer, 2010, we expanded to a 14 person Board of Directors
  • We are being provided ProBono identity and branding consultation by 50,000 Ft. (a creative consulting firm) as of October 2010 with the branding phase being completed in August 2011.
  • To finance our pilot project, we raised $10K in 12d through the help of tippingbucket.org
  • We are now recognized with official 501c3 status as of December 2010 with a founding date of January 20, 2010..
  • We were semi-finalists in pursuit of an Echoing Green Fellowship (top 200 out of over 2,800 organizations applying).  www.echoinggreen.org
  • We completed the Implementation Phase of our Senegal Pilot Project in February 2011.   Read our Trip Report for more detail View  Download.
  • We received probono services from Nathan Frerichs for still photography and video for the Senegal Pilot Project in February 2011.
  • We were selected by the Nerdery to receive probono services through the Chicago Overnight Website Challenge for website development completed in August 2011 and with probono services continuing.
  • We are being provided probono Social Networking Consulting services by Xenos Media Group from August 2011.
  • Two projects will be developed in 2011-2012.  The Senegal project will continue and a project will be developed in collaboration with PFCAC in El Salvador.
  • Peace Care was featured in the Truman Today Newsletter as well as the Truman Review Summer Edition, publications of Truman State University, the Alma Mater, of Andrew Dykens.
  • We have submitted an application for the Global Community Project Competition through the Peace Corps to be able to expand the Senegal Project.. The top 4 entries will go to Washington DC to present in front of a live audience at the 50th Anniversary of Peace Corps Celebration. The winner will get $25,000 for project.
